The game's subconscious world is split into two lands that represent the left and right halves of a human brain. The lands are crossed through by Dustys as she experiences her various realities. On the right side of the island, everything is about creativity, music and imagination. The area is colored in vivid hues, with colors that sparkle and shine. Artistic touches such as musical instruments, flowers and artwork influence the surrounding landscape. By completing all of the game's challenging missions, players continue the story without ending location. Time spent in ClockTown — also known as the land of the left brain — involves various tasks involving logic, math, and physics. Many everyday items such as rulers and clocks are found in this area. Clocktown is entirely different than Freedom Isles, another land located on the opposite side of the brain. Both areas contain objects related to everyday life, such as pencils and clocks, but Clocktown's objects have extra variation. When completing quests in Clock town, you need to use your thinking abilities to figure out answers to your questions. Quests in the Freedom Isles require more input than output, as many require you to analyze many aspects of the situation.

Music plays an important role in this game. Each land has its own musical theme that players can listen to when moving closer to a specific location. For instance, when near a bridge or other object using musical instruments, such as trumpets and pianos, music will play in Freedom Isles. Alternatively, players can change the musical track by moving away from the location. The sound design of Figment is extremely effective at immersing the player into the game's magical world. It's smooth and complete, with natural conversations that convey a lot of emotion. This makes Figment a wonderful experience to play, as players will feel light and relaxed when they play it.

The success of Figment is dependent on the unusual concepts it includes in its images. The surreal images found in Clockdown Town and Freedom Isles pull their viewers deeper into their minds.
